Examine Yourself - By Dr. Luauna Stines - A Touch From Above Prayer Mountain

Dear Dr. Luauna – For October 15, 2015 – Examine Yourself

East County Gazette – San Diego, CA – Weekly Column
Dear Reader, A powerful verse: 2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? — unless indeed you are disqualified.
As I travel out beyond the church walls to reach the unsaved, and even those who have become cold in heart towards Jesus, I meet many who haven’t stepped into the church house for weeks and even years. Yet confess as I hand them a gospel tract, “Oh, yes, I’m fine with God.” I find young and old men and women, rich and poor, black and white, every race today who confess they know Jesus, yet have they really examined themselves whether they are truly in the faith?
The Apostle Paul, by the Holy Spirit of the living God knew the Corinthian church needed to examine themselves to see if they were truly in the faith of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I’m reminded in the scriptures, of the great crowd who must have stood around the ark Noah was building. They knew it was made of Gopher wood, and held together tightly by pitch, and it could float indeed. Yet, did it really matter whether they knew how great and strong the ark was built? Was it not better they would have been in the ark?
You and I too must take time out and examine ourselves! As many know about Jesus, many even sing famous religious songs, sung throughout the globe. Songs like, “Amazing Grace,” yet, that’s all they know, the lyrics. They know not the one who they sing about. Like those who stood outside the ark, they knew it was a great boat and how it could float. Yet they missed out by not being in the ark when the rain came and flood gates of heaven were opened. How they longed and wished they would have been in the ark they knew so much about, but it was too late.
Paul tells us again in: 2 Corinthians 5:17; “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” It’s in Him, Jesus, we live, move and have our being. If we only have religion, are we no better off than those who stood like the crowd who were looking at the wonderful, amazing, ark?
Let’s not find ourselves just looking at the Cross, may we go through the cross to Jesus. Let us examine ourselves to see whether we’re truly in the faith. Least we find ourselves like those in the time of John the Baptist who were so comfortable with man’s religion; Luke 3:8: “Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” So the people asked him, saying, “What shall we do then?”
The same question is asked today! “What SHALL we do?” Repent, and turn your hearts to Jesus, follow His Word, find a good Bible teaching church. A church which challenges you to read and pray so you can change daily, and prepare to stand before a Holy God. Look to JESUS, my dear readers; examine your hearts to see if you’re truly in the faith of our wonderful Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He loves you and so do I.
