Like a Child

Pastor-B

Dear Reader,

What a beautiful time of year, I love November its one of my favorite months, there’s a chill in the air the beautiful leaves are turning bright orange, red and different colors of browns. We pull out our jackets, sweaters, and our boots to keep us nice and warm. I start to stack up my firewood in its place to make sure I have plenty to burn in my old wood burning stove when those temperatures drop. The smell of burning firewood always puts a smile on my face.

I remember as a child, I had to clean up all the leaves in the yard, I remember I would pile them in a big pile and then after all that work, I would take a flying leap and jump right in the middle of all those leaves. It’s funny I bet almost everyone reading my column can remember jumping into a pile of leaves. If you have never jumped into a pile of leaves, it’s not too late. (smile)

I want to share the importance of coming to Jesus as a child. Matthew 18:3; and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.” Have you ever watched a little child? Sunday morning during worship, our worship leader was singing. Standing in the front roll was a little boy 3 years old. This little one was watching Joel, who was his uncle leading worship. As I watched this little 3 year old, he started dancing and smiling from ear to ear. Pretending he had a microphone in his hand singing with all his heart. Then he would stop and pretended he was playing the drums. He wasn’t worried about who was watching him; he had not one care in the world. He was as happy as he could be; he had the full attention of the front roll.

What’s the difference between a child and someone older?  A child has no past, only a future. When a child’s in kindergarten or the first grade you can ask them, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Within a few minutes out of their mouth comes, “A fireman, police man, doctor, airplane pilot, on and on, and all in five minutes.” They have vision, hope, a drive and excitement in their heart.

Then, you have someone older, some have lost their vision and hope of a great future, and they got caught in their past, stuck in a trial. That person keeps looking back, like they’re stuck in a block of hardened cement. They’re past haunts them. Something happened, a broken marriage, a betrayal, a bad doctor report, you were raped, someone said and did something, and you’ve never forgiven them. In your mind it’s like a tape recorder, and you keep hitting the replay button over and over. Life has thrown you a curve ball, and you’ve found yourself paralyzed, you’re stuck and it keeps getting darker and darker. STOP! Stop it dear one, it’s time for a change!

I love you, and I want you to know Jesus died on that cross to break the chains of darkness off our life. You can come to Jesus, right now and He will give you the heart of a child once again. He’ll give you a freedom that starts deep within. II Corinthians 5:17; “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”  Jesus said, “He loves you, His purpose for your life and future is good and not for evil.”  Trust Jesus with your life today, and ask Him to help you renew your mind and life. I love you.
